Glashütte Original MusicFestivalAward
— Fado singer Mariza wins Glashütte Original MusicFestivalAward.
For the 12th year in a row the German replica Breitling watchmaker Glashütte Original, and the Dresden Music Festival have named a prominent artist to receive the Glashütte Original MusicFestivalAward. Commenting on the award, Dresden Music Festival Director Jan Vogler said, “Mariza is the leading fado singer of our time. As an artist she presents this rich tradition to an international audience of all ages. In 2011 the fado tradition was added to UNESCO’s list of the world’s intangible cultural heritage. Mariza receives the Glashütte Original MusicFestivalAward for her contributions as an ambassador throughout Europe of the fado tradition.”
The Award will be presented to Mariza on the occasion of her June 7, 2015 concert, the final concert at this year’s Dresden Music Festival, in the Albertinum art museum.
As in previous years, the Glashütte Original MusicFestivalAward trophy was built by two apprentice cheap fake Breitling watchmakers at the “Alfred Helwig School of Watchmaking” in Glashütte. The form of the award trophy unites traditional watchmaking craftsmanship with modern materials. The Flying Tourbillon with its eighteen weighted screws symbolizes the virtuosity of watchmakers. The complication represents exceptional achievement in the art of watchmaking and was developed in Glashütte around 1920 by the master watchmaker Alfred Helwig.
