After Barbie pretty much dominated culture all of last year, Ryan Gosling’s unique brand of ‘funny, but magnetic, but also sensitive, but also funny’ on-screen magic is back with The Fall Guy, an action movie that gives stuntmen the credit they so often don’t get.
And just as he did for Greta Gerwig’s film, The Gos has been giving it his all on the promotion tour, wearing a T-shirt repping his lady’s new kids book one day, rocking up to a film premiere as Beavis (with Butthead) the next.
More importantly, if the great minds at the GQ Department of Watch Maths are correct, which we’re pretty sure they are, this week he’s been doing it all while wearing three perfect replica TAG Heuers – all from the same family.
One of the most successful Hollywood-meets-Switzerland watch partnerships of recent years, Ryan Gosling has enjoyed delving into the luxury fake TAG Heuer archive and rocking some of its more current — and accessible — models during a certified Big Week.
First up there was the silvery steel 1:1 fake TAG Heuer Carrera Date, a Magpie’s dream as well as a classic iteration of TAG’s legendary driving-with-a-bit-of-dress-up watch, featuring an objectively ideal 39mm case and a grey sunray dial that’s primed for catching eyes in the California sun. It was first introduced by Jack Heuer back in 1963 thanks to a conversation the great watchmaker overheard concerning the very cool and very dangerous Mexican race, the aaa quality replica TAG Heuer Carrera Panamerica, back in the ’50s. Further proof that sometimes all you need to do is throw on a timeless steel sports watch and get to work – check overshirt optional.
On the more flamboyant side of flexing, we also spotted a wild Gosling — head-to-toe in satin turquoise tailoring — in a special edition, one-of-one customised version of the Swiss movement copy TAG Heuer Carrera Success Gold, better known as ‘the Barbie watch’. This one is the 18K 3N, with a yellow gold case on a gold Milanese bracelet, an custom-made update on the original ‘luxury’ Carrera that was handed out to Ferrari F1 drivers back in the ’70s, and of the earliest, and most striking, examples of a sport/tool copy watch being given the dripped in gold treatment.
If you look closely, you can actually see that Gosling has his on upside down. Perhaps he’s invented a new and thrilling way of telling the time? The more likely scenario is a case of studied insouciance, a bit like Andy Warhol, who famously never wound his Cartier Tank. Sometimes a watch is for telling the time down to the millisecond… sometimes it’s for looking good in a really dapper suit on a red carpet. Sometimes it’s for both.
Finally, Gosling ended his legendary run at The Fall Guy premiere, where he reprised his viral SNL Beavis outfit along with a decidedly un-idiotic Carrera chronograph, the ‘Glassbox’ which, along with the striking reverse panda dial, another objectively ideal 39mm stainless steel case and a perforated black calfskin leather strap, features high quality replica TAG Heuer’s signature Glassbox, curved sapphire crystal that’s said to improve visibility – perfect for a leading man who’s got places to be and beautiful watches to wear.
week, told in three very good super clone watches online.
